                      ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS

As winter continues & we start thinking about the possibility of snow, I thought I would write to you about the schools’ policy regarding adverse weather conditions. It is the policy of our two schools to make every effort to remain open whenever possible & we will not close simply because we have had snow. The decision to close the school either before or during the school day will be made by the Headteacher in consultation with the Chair of Governors.

The school will only be closed if one or more of the following conditions apply:

  1. Insufficient staff are able to come in to keep the school running safely.
  2. Conditions on site are dangerous
  3. Conditions are considered to be or are anticipated to later become too hazardous for travel

Parents will be able to check whether the school is open in the following ways:

  1. Local media stations including BBC Somerset, Heart FM & Breeze FM
  2. Telephone (number at the top of the page)
  3. School website www.huntspillfederation.co.uk

We will make all practicable efforts to keep parents informed as to the situation with the school during adverse weather conditions, as we appreciate that such conditions & the uncertainty places very considerable difficulties upon parents. However parents do need to make themselves aware of local radio broadcasts when it is clear that a closure is a possibility.

Parents should also note that in the event of snow while some pathways on the school site may be cleared & salted they still do remain slippery & therefore great care should be taken.
